Very few, most would guess.
In a recently organised training program on bariatric surgery in Belle Vue, eight surgeons from West Bengal and Bangladesh participated and were awarded certification from Boston University at the conclusion of the program.
Not only the program consisted of lectures and interactive sessions made interesting by and Dr. B Ramana, the delegates were also taken for clinical rounds to examine patients. A tour of the office to demonstrate how it should be designed and utilised gave an insight to the delegates of how to make their own. Bariatric procedures were demonstrated by Dr. Sarfaraz Baig, with participants witnessing the nuances of surgery and anesthesia first hand inside the operating theatre.
At the end of the program, certificates were awarded by Mr. P. Tondon, CEO of Belle Vue, to the delegates. A certificate from Boston University and assurance by Dr Baig to help the surgeons build their own bariatric program in their center brought smiles and cheer on faces at the end of the day.
Stryker, USA, the industry sponsor of the training program, promised to return with more of such successful training programs in future to keep updating surgeons with the modern advancement in laparoscopic surgery.
